counselling services

Sydney CBD or Newtown relationship counselling services

I provide relationship counselling for individuals and couples in-person and by appointment, at either of my two offices in the heart of the Sydney CBD and Newtown, in the Inner West.

individual relationship counselling

I have extensive experience and training in many areas of the counselling field, however my speciality is working with individuals that are experiencing relationship pain.

couples counselling

I work with couples that are experiencing negative and destructive patterns of relating and help them develop the skills for forming and maintaining healthy and loving relationships.

employee assistance programs (EAP)

I only accept EAP referrals if Clinton Power Counselling & Psychotherapy is listed with your company as a preferred provider. I am currently a provider for ComPsych. If you are unsure if I am a provider for your company, check this with your employer.

telephone counselling in Australia

If you are unable to see me in-person at one of my offices due to distance or disability, I offer telephone counselling for individuals only. If you would like to arrange telephone counselling, please book with my online appointment book or contact me to discuss your requirements. I accept PayPal for telephone counselling sessions. For more information on how telephone counselling works please read the FAQ.

This service is only available for people residing in any state of Australia.

Skype online relationship counselling

I offer online Skype sessions for residents of Australia that cannot make it into my office for face-to-face sessions. I currently offer this service for individuals only.

Sydney relationship coaching group for singles

In 2012, I am running a relationship coaching group for singles with my relationship counselling colleague Vivian Baruch.

length of sessions

I meet with individuals and couples according to your unique goals and needs. Together we decide what is best for you and your schedule.

All sessions are 60 minutes in length, unless you choose a 90 minute couple consultation.

Referrals from a Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will be 50 minutes long and are limited to 5 or 6 sessions, depending on the employer agreement.

• initial sessions

In the initial session I work with you to gain a full understanding of your needs and provide a thorough and comprehensive assessment. In the initial session you will experience how I work and have a strong sense of how we can work together. You may feel hopeful and a sense of relief because you have taken the first step in creating the relationship that you desire. Clients often report that they experience new awareness and insights from this initial session.

After I confirm your appointment, please visit my client forms page to download, print and fill out the documents you need to bring to the initial counselling session.

• subsequent sessions

For individuals, subsequent sessions are 60 minutes. For couples, sessions are generally 60 minutes, and occasionally we arrange 90-minute sessions, depending on your needs. You can also choose a 90 minute session when you make a booking through my online scheduler.

couples in relationship crisis

I recommend that couples that are in relationship crisis commit to six sessions before they decide to end the therapy or the relationship. I have found this approach extremely valuable for couples that are close to ending their relationship as it gives you the time explore what changes are possible to improve the quality of your relationship.

length of therapy

This of course is a very difficult question to answer because every client is different and has unique needs. The length of therapy can depend on a number of factors, which may include the type of issue, the length of time that negative patterns have been ingrained and the willingness and motivation you have to change.

On average, clients can tend to have between 8-20 sessions. Some research suggests that it can take 3-4 months to start to experience long-lasting change, however many clients report that they notice changes after only a few sessions. Some clients may need medium to longer term therapy, which may last longer than a year.

Together we determine how often you will attend, based on your needs and schedule, which may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. In my experience, the clients that have the most positive outcomes from therapy attend weekly, or schedule and attend sessions on a regular basis.
