Medibank Private, one of the largest health funds in Australia, is the first private health fund to offer counselling rebates to eligible members.
This is an exciting step forward for the profession of counselling and psychotherapy, and we hope other Australian health funds will be following soon. It’s also an important recognition that counselling services are valuable and worthwhile, and need to be accessed by Australians.
If you’re a member of Medibank Private and wish to start counselling, there are a few things to do before your first appointment:
- Call Medibank Private on 132 331 to confirm you have the right level of coverage that includes rebates for counselling services.
- Once you have confirmed you have coverage you can book your appointment online.
- Let me know when we speak on the phone that you are claiming with Medibank Private, so I can have the appropriate paperwork for you.
If you’re not currently with Medibank Private, I encourage you to contact own health fund asking them to provide coverage for counselling services in the future.
I have admiration for Medibank Private, as it’s leading the way for other health funds to follow in the near future, and supporting the health of Australians.
*UPDATE: Medibank Private have advised me that you need the ‘package bonus’ component to your coverage to claim for counselling services. Please ring Medibank and confirm that you have the coverage required if you plan to claim.
